Part 2: Tips from Georgia Tech Softball Athlete Mallorie Black Athlete Burnout

(Part II) Athlete Burnout ⚠️ happens often, and happens to athletes at all phases & levels of play ➡️ Here are some tips from Georgia Tech Softball athlete @mallorieblackx who finished her senior season in 2024 as just the third player in program history to be named All-American, National Player of the Week and All-Region in the same season.

💫 Remind Yourself of YOUR why 🥎

🗣️ Communicate with Coaches & Teammates

Video Transcript:

I think gratitude's a huge thing when going home, maybe feeling overwhelmed from practice, weights, whatever went on that day, and just reflecting and taking time to feel thankful, whether that be for your teammates, your coaches, that your body's allowing you to do these hard, grueling things. So I definitely recommend taking the time out of your day, five minutes, to just write down things that you enjoy from your day, things that...

bring you back to why you wanted to play softball, you know, your purpose or why. And that can really relieve some of the burnout you're feeling when you kind of clear your head and realize what you're doing is awesome and it may be hard, but it's gonna be so. Also remember that burnout is very common. You're most likely not the only one feeling this way, but it's okay to be upfront and honest about.

If you're feeling that way, you can talk to your teammates, talk to your coaches, they'll definitely understand. And part of being a leader, I think, is addressing that and not letting it affect everyone else because that energy can be very draining in a locker room if multiple people are feeling that way. It can spread pretty quickly. So something I might try and do would be address the locker room like, hey, I know a few of us might be feeling a bit drained, a bit overwhelmed, feeling a bit of burnout,

How can we combat that and not let it affect our performance and still have good fun, still have a good.
