The Del Oro High School Softball Team in Loomis, CA is currently in a 30 day digital detox in an effort to raise awareness as to the detrimental effects social media and smartphone technology have on our youth today. This means NO SOCIAL MEDIA OF ANY KIND and only call-capability flip phones.

Video Transcript:

you're gonna not have a phone or technology or social media for 30 days. This was the moment Del Oro High School's varsity softball team got their hands on a piece of technology they thought no longer exists. But for the next month this ancient relic will be their lifeline because they're trading in their smartphones for something that has no apps, no scrolling, and no distractions. They're letting their smartphones go dark so their field will light up.

The softball field currently has no lights, meaning the Eagles have to play most of their games and practices off campus. Jennifer Christensen, the brains behind the detox, thought of a plan to solve two problems with one move, to raise money for field lights while helping teens rediscover life beyond their screens. I feel like we've kind of lost our teenage adolescence to the cyber world.

and I just want to bring them back. I just want everybody to look up. I think it's an opportunity for growth and learning. Yeah. And then for the girls to bond because they're gonna be doing this together. Know when they get out of this at the back end, they're gonna be even better for it. It's gonna be a really good thing for them. We are confident in doing this fundraiser but showing other girls and other sports and other athletes that the mental health awareness is like something very important that we need to step up. Shining a light on mental health by stepping away from social media so that one day,

They can shine a light on the field too.
